Can probiotic health supplements help with regularity and colon health? ?
Written by admin on December 22, 2008 – 3:36 am -Can they help kill off parasites and yeast too?
Probiotic health supplements, such as acidophilus can help with balancing the gentle and bad bacteria, and result in promoting good colon health. This will likely result in enabling more consistency and regularity as well. However, to eliminate parasites and problems with yeast, you would probably be better off either getting a prescription from your family physician or you could also check online to see if any herbal supplements are available for such problems. Parasites are a very technical thing that require a very specific type of medication to get rid of it. Of course, an experienced doctor in that department could give you much more information. Yeast infections are more treatable by a gynecologist. If you suspect having this, do not put off consulting and being thoroughly examined by your specialist. Good luck.

Are there really worms/parasites in our stomach?
Written by admin on December 18, 2008 – 1:30 am -A friend of mine forwarded me a clip that shows a part of the inner body, looks like the colon, and there were worms crawling around… yucks!
Yes, you can have worms and other parasites in you digestive track. I don't think that would be normal. Sometimes Tape Worms will exit through the rectum. That tells you you need to go see a doctor and get de-wormed. There are other types of parasites that can be in your digestive such as lettuce bugs.
By the way, your body is covered with "things" that crawl and eat dead skin and………………..Sleep well. Pops

Worms/parasites in the body?
Written by admin on October 13, 2008 – 3:43 pm -If your stomach acid is so strong, how can you ingest things like worms or parasites and get them into your body? Wouldnt they be killed off as soon as they hit the acid of your stomach? How do you get parasites in your body or colon?
And….. how do you get rid of parasites??? a body cleanse?? What are the valid options?!?
The parasite is covered with a coating that protects it from the stomach acid. Then they can penetrate your insides and travel through your body, even ending up in your eyes or brain, or simply live in your intestines, snacking on the food you send its way. Some bore in through your skin, such as your feet or are inserted by a bug bite. Be careful out there! To get rid of parasites see a doctor. Different meds for different bugs. A body cleanse won't do it. Tape worms hold on in your intestines with hooks around their mouths. The other bugs may be in your body or blood.

How much would all these tests cost?
Written by admin on October 7, 2008 – 6:22 pm -So I've been doing some research on like IBD and Colitis in cats and the tests that they run look to be the same ones. Any idea how much this would cost me at the vet?
# A complete medical history and thorough physical examination
# Fecal examination to evaluate for the presence of disease-causing bacteria or parasites
# A complete blood count (CBC or hemogram) to evaluate for anemia, systemic inflammation, and presence of inflammatory cells (i.e., eosinophils) that may indicate an underlying allergic cause
# Serum biochemistry tests to evaluate the general health of your cat and to identify problems in other organ systems
# Urinalysis to evaluate kidney function
# Abdominal X-rays to look for tumors or enlargement of abdominal organs
# Serum trypsin-like immunoreactivity (TLI) in cats to evaluate for pancreatic disorders
# Colonoscopic examination to identify the presence of colitis or colon cancer and biopsy to determine the type of inflammation.
she just has chronic bloody diarrhea, so some of those tests might not be necessary…I'm not sure.
I think you are looking at a very large amt of money if you do this all at one time. Here is how it breaks down at the clinic I work at here in Texas.
Office call/ Dr. Exam and Physical $44
Fecal exam (direct and float) $16.00
CBC with electrolytes $32
Serum Chemistry $68
Urine Analysis $32
(these are costs if testing done in hospital, you could get alot more bang for the buck if you do a group panel test sent out to big lab like Idexx or Antech)
Radiograps inital survey $135, after that per film charges of $60*****see note about ultrasound exam below
Serum TLI is sent out……I think that is around $75, may depend who runs the tests.
The endoscopic exam we don't do, that is sent out to a specialist so not really sure on price…..maybe $200 to $300
it is that much because there is anesthesia and monitoring involved.
*******I always hear the doctors tell clients they can get a better idea of what is happening in the abdomen using an ultrasound exam instead of radiographs….cost may be about the same. Ask the dr about that.
Biopsies and histopath $70-$100 for the biopsy, $100- $150 for histopath
No Idea what meds might be, mostlikely a steriod if IBD
You should talk with you vet and ask what they consider a priority in testing.
Good luck
